John York

John Michael York PharmD – (LinkedIn) is a biopharmaceutical veteran, with 28 years in the industry, and serial entrepreneur. After his receiving his doctorate from the University of Michigan, Dr. York was the first industry pharmacy fellow (Warner-Lambert/Parke-Davis) at Rutgers University. York’s industry career included positions in medical, marketing, sales, and management at Bristol-Myers Squibb, Amgen, and Allergan. After working as Director of Worldwide Medical Marketing at Allergan, he moved over to the service side of the business. In 2002, he started Akita Biomedical (AKITA), a medical communications, marketing, and consulting firm. Over the last 13 years, he has worked with a diversity of life science firms ranging from startups to large multinationals. As an entrepreneur, York has also started Lori’s Beach Deli and Ophthalmic Research and Education Consultants in addition to Akita Biomedical. York brings 18 years of experience in ophthalmology and 24 years in the hematology/oncology, including the last 10 years as an associate editor of Cancer Control, the peer-review journal of the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. He is presently completing his MBA at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business (June 2016) and a life science business certificate through the University of California Berkeley, where he has completed courses in life sciences marketing plans, venture capital, and business development. Over the past year, York has participated in the National Science Foundation Innovation Corps™ program at the Von Liebig Entrepreneurism Center at the University of California, San Diego, in which he mentored three teams moving through phase 1 and phase 2 of the curriculum.
